Produce a comprehensive program budget for the Empowerment Academy; perform a grant readiness assessment and deliver a checklist based on review of provided materials; and create a 12–24 month funding roadmap identifying funding categories, potential sources, priorities, and recommended sequencing. Details will be provided.
Volunteers will help build a sustainable funding foundation that enables the Empowerment Academy to deliver workforce training, apprenticeships, certifications, and support services to marginalized Houston residents—advancing education, economic self-reliance, and community leadership in line with FDLA’s mission.
FDLA is preparing a July 2026 pilot and will provide existing organizational and program materials and staff contacts for review. Volunteers will collaborate with program leaders and be given access to documents and stakeholder input during onboarding so recommendations can be implemented. Details will be provided.

Organization Mission

The Frederick Douglass Liberty Alliance is dedicated to empowering marginalized communities—including low-income individuals, formerly incarcerated persons, descendants of Freedmen, and individuals with disabilities. Our mission is to promote education and foster economic self-reliance by providing resources, support, and opportunities that enable individuals to overcome systemic barriers and achieve their full potential. Inspired by the enduring legacy of Frederick Douglass, we strive to create a society where freedom, justice, and equality are accessible to all.
